5G will create a world of Digital Nomads
The physical interaction between employees will be replaced by holographic meetings. At least that’s what the experts say. They had stated this concept again during the Transforming Industry: Creative Collaboration in a 5G World, which was part of the 2019 Fast Company Innovation Festival. The event took place at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, from the 4th till the 8th of November 2019.
The benefits of 5G networks don’t only concerne mobile devices. Wireless technology can make everything faster and cheaper, from cloud computing to streaming videos online. This means that entrepreneurs will be able to carry out all their daily work from almost anywhere.
Italy – one of the most advanced countries
“The Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) is doing an extensive and complicated job. This makes Italy today one of the most advanced countries in Europe for the development of the 5G network. The latest data on the Digital Economy and Society Index (Desi) place Italy in second place in Europe for 5G.”Mirella Liuzzi, Subsecretary for Economic Development
This was the first thing the Subsecretary for Economic Development, Mirella Liuzzi said about the research that had been carried out on new telecommunication technologies, during the Transport Commission of the Chamber of Deputies (the Italian Parliament), on November 13, 2019. One of the topics that were discussed was the transition to 5G.
«In collaboration with the local authorities have been funded experimentation and research projects and technology transfer focused on emerging technologies. Among them: blockchain, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things. The program for emerging technologies in support of the 5G has two branches: the first one is related to emerging technologies with an endowment of 40,000,000 euros; the second one is focused on research & development projects to promote the technological transformation of SMEs and innovative start-ups with an endowment of 5,000,000 euros».Mirella Liuzzi, Subsecretary for Economic Developmen
The experimentation projects covered several key areas for Italy: from health (remote diagnostics, e-learning hospitals), to industry (digitisation of the processes, collaborative robotics, production chain); from environmental monitoring (intelligent environment, intelligent infrastructure), to mobility and road safety (assisted driving, logistics, road surface monitoring); tourism and culture (virtual visits, augmented reality), to agriculture (precision farming, production monitoring – based on blockchain technology); from public safety (population safety and law enforcement support), to ports and cities (monitoring, logistics, etc.).); from energy (smart grid and optimization) to universities (intelligent campus).
Experiments and tests in progress in Italian cities
«To date, project proposals have been received from several municipal administrations. More specifically: Turin, Genoa, Milan, Modena, Prato, L’Aquila, Matera, Rome and Catania, in addition to the expressions of interest received from the municipalities of Naples and Bari. The projects aim to combine the universities and research institutions scientific expertise with the local businesses and citizens needs. The aim is to provide a physical space and necessary resources for the development of business ideas. It is necessary to implement new technologies through the potential of 5G networks. The gained know-how will then be reused for the benefit of all».Mirella Liuzzi, Subsecretary for Economic Developmen
The 5G network will create a world of Digital Nomads.
«The 5G network will create a world of nomads».Theodore Schachter, marketing and advertising director of FIT and founder of the marketing agency Wolf Prey Advisors
Affirmed Theodore Schachter, marketing and advertising director of FIT and founder of the marketing agency Wolf Prey Advisors.
At the same time, the widespread adoption of 5G will facilitate the collaboration and the creation of (virtual) communities of entrepreneurs.
The retail sector will have the opportunity to take advantage of the customer data enhancements offered by advanced technology.
«It will allow the real experience to finally compete with the online experience. AR, VR and 5G will allow stores to get to know the customer in context. For example, why are they making the purchase? Are they buying the good for a first date or for an anniversary?».Theodore Schachter, marketing and advertising director of FIT and founder of the marketing agency Wolf Prey Advisors
However, the increase in the possibility to access customer data is likely to lead to an increase in security and privacy concerns.
«The internet will be faster than our brains».
Claims Michael Caralis. Verizon’s director of sales and public operations has defined the 5G – the fourth industrial revolution. 5G will optimize the production for retailers. He concluded:
«Adding capacity and functionality to the technology will reduce the costs and everything can be connected more easily».
