Converse Artist Series from denim to McMullen
The latest artist is the brilliant 21-year-old Spencer McMullen, personally chosen by Tyler Okonma – The creator, rapper and designer from Los Angeles. Some time ago, Tyler started the collaboration (now for the third year in a row) with Converse for a velvet release of the Converse Golf LeFleur line.
Now, handpicked by Tyler, the 21-year-old artist Spencer McMullen will apply creativity to the Chuck 70, the latest addition to the Convers Artist series.
Tyler, The Creator, was looking for a new creative to design the next Converse Artist Series. He has been keeping an eye on the artistic evolution of McMullen for some time, ultimately choosing him to design the iconic Converse canvas applying his creative point of view. Each of Spencer’s illustrations tells a story: they uniquely explore the world and the many characters he has encountered during these explorations.
#createathome with McMullen’s drawings
The Converse Artist Series presented by Tyler – The Creator was designed by McMullen in his home in Los Angeles, in support of Converse’s new #CreateAtHome campaign. The campaign is an invitation to the creative community to share their talents on social media, to get the opportunity to work with Converse on content creation and brand campaigns. Chuck 70 are just one of many artistic proposals from Converse. Let’s see the most glamorous ones.
The pro leather
Converse inverted inside out with the aesthetics by Shane Gonzales, founder of Midnight Studios, a streetwear brand inspired by the punk era of the seventies. Converse reintroduced Pro Leather into its collection this fall when some young and cooler sub-culture brands were inspired by the iconic Converse silhouette as the potential for new ideas. One such brand is Midnight Studios, famous for combining the passion for skateboarding with a punk rock aesthetic. Shane chose to turn the sneakers inside out and to combine simplicity with functionality – through a mix of leather and suede – for an everyday look. As was the case with the brand’s previous collaborating models, the One Star and Chuck 70, the Converse x Midnight Studios Pro Leather also features the logo on the heel. It also has a loop to pass the laces on the outside, interchangeable and with irreverent lettering and respective logos.
Converse Pigalle: the power of sport to move the world
Another iconic Convers model is Stéphane Ashpool‘s Pigalle. Pigalle is the most famous district of Paris, but it is also the name of one of the most original brands in Paris, founded by Stéphane.
The district is famous for the sport, especially for basketball. For this reason, the Converse of Pigalle bears on the sole the inscription “the power of sport to move the world.”
The same creative power as the JWA Run Star Hike, seen at London Fashion Week in 2018 with the J.W.Anderson fashion show and redesigned at the end of 2019. This must-have model is in black and white. Because all great loves deserve a second chance.
Artistic Converse: three denim washes
Have you ever seen the Chuck 70 in upcycled jeans? This Convers version is made with three washes and is part of the latest Converse Renew capsule, a sustainable collection.
The Renew Tri Panel Denim project uses three distinct upcycled jeans washes – dark blue, light blue, and black. They offer a new version of the original 1970s shoe.
