The Mikiya Kobayashi studio, in collaboration with Aisin (well-known manufacturer that produces automotive parts and lifestyle and wellness products), has created an incredible scooter with a cutting-edge design. ILY-Ai is a completely electric scooter with a chestnut wood body. It is making big news, also because it appeals to a forgotten side of our childhood… It is an “intelligent” scooter, with a particular design that makes it look like an old fashioned toy. Moreover wood, as we know, has a relaxing effect on the psyche.
ILY-Ai was born from the union of several factors and collaborators
Mikiya Kobayashi developed this elegant wood electric scooter in a collaboration with Aisin and Karimoku, one of the largest wood manufacturers in Japan. The scooter is made up of an aluminum frame covered with chestnut wood, one of the lightest and most water resistant woods on the market. On the one hand the curved forms not only give the design a more refined look but also maximize comfort. On the other hand the padded leather seat further enhances the seating by making the driver feel completely at ease. In fact, its name comes from the blending of the acronyms of: “Innovative Lifestyle for You” and “Active Intelligent”.
Clearly this electric scooter is designed to travel over short distances, it is a perfect vehicle to use in the city. Its design is aimed at satisfying anyone’s needs, but especially those of the people who have mobility issues. Technology, including a safety sensor that stops the scooter in front of obstacles is hidden in ILY-Ai wooden body. On the one hand the sit-down design with a padded leather seat provides a cozy way to travel. On the other, the elegant silhouette ensures that ILY-Ai looks great anywhere it goes. Furthermore, its compact size occupies minimal space, whether in a parking area or at home.

Not only on the road
ILY-Ai has been designed both to go on the road and to be used, at reduced and controlled speeds, within spaces such as large convention centers. Its speed is set at four kilometers per hour (almost a walking speed). Being electric, however, the speed can be configured to suit everyone’s needs. We will keep you updated on the development of this project and its availability, stay tuned!
