The list starts from March 2021 with Cogiri Island Resort; it continues with the opening of the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands and Patina Maldives, both part of the real estate development project of Fari Islands. In autumn, it will be the turn of Le Meridien Maldives Resort & Spa, concluding with The Chedi Kuda-Villingili, Address Madivaru Maldives Resort Spa and Avani Fares, which will be inaugurated within this year.
Maldives: what will be the openings of 2021?
Digital detox at Cocogiri Island Resort
In the Vaavu Atoll, popular for its diving spots, Cocogiri Island Resort will open in March. It will be a boutique island resort with 20 villas on the water and 20 villas on the beach. The property will be the perfect retreat for a stay of wellness and relaxation. An ideal place for a digital detox where you can swim in the temperature-controlled pool, snorkel in the crystal-clear waters or relax on the sunny beaches.
Fari Islands luxury real estate development project will feature not one but three high-end resorts. The Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands planned for May 2021; the summer opening of Patina Maldives, the first resort from Capella Hotels Group’s lifestyle brand. Capella Hotels Group will also open the third and final Fari Islands resort in 2022.
The Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands will offer 100 villas featuring minimalist, contemporary luxury, all with private pools. A butler will also be available to take care of guests’ needs. Also, the resort will feature a spa with nine treatment rooms, seven restaurants; two bars and an indoor and outdoor Ritz Kids Club with daily activities; pool and play space for travelers of all ages. Guests will also have access to the Fari Marina with additional restaurants and stores.
Patina Maldives will mark the debut of Capella Hotels Group‘s sophisticated new brand, Patina. Here, guests will be able to check-in for one of 90 villas with private pools or one of 20 beachfront suites created by Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan, all with unique, modern designs. Custom-designed wellness programs, interactive programs, captivating culinary experiences and a focus on eco-sustainability – no single-use plastic will be allowed throughout the resort – are among the property’s advantages.
Diving, shipwrecks and spectacular seabeds
News also for the atoll of Lhaviyani, famous for The Shipyard dive site, where you can find the wrecks of two ships dating back to the 1940s, now populated by many fish, a real attraction for all divers. In September, Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa will open in this atoll. It will be accessible by a 35-minute seaplane from Velana International Airport. Surrounded by a natural lagoon, its 9 acres will offer six dining experiences – including an overwater restaurant – and no fewer than 50 dive sites for sea lovers to explore.
It is designed for family stays so that all children can enjoy the Le Meridien Family concept, an immersive world dedicated to discovery and exploration.
Three luxury hotel chains will debut in the Maldives later this year, opening their first properties in the destination: The Chedi, Address Hotels and Avani.
Chedi Kudavillingili, GHM Group’s first property in the Maldives, will rise on a 1-kilometer private island within the eponymous Kudavillingili atoll. The resort, located a 25-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport, will offer 99 villas, including 36 overwater and 63 on the island. The Chedi Kudavillingili will also feature a central swimming pool, an overwater spa with eight treatment rooms, a beach club & bar and several restaurants and live cooking stations. A diving and surf center is also available to guests.
From the Arab Emirates to the Maldives
Address Hotels Group, which currently has properties in the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, will expand its portfolio with the opening of Address Madivaru Maldives Resort & Spa, which will be spread across several islands and will include a Spa Island; a water sports island; a myriad of restaurants and bars including a floating restaurant; as well as beach and water villas for couples and families, in-water fitness facilities and swimming pools.
UNESCO-protected natural oasis
In the Baa Atoll, home to the country’s only natural oasis protected by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve, Avani Hotel & Resort will open Avani Fares Maldives.
With its unique location in the atoll and proximity to the Ahivahfushi dive site, the resort will be the perfect destination for snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts. The 200 rooms range from standard category to luxury villas. Also available to guests are restaurants and bars, a kids club and an Avani Spa.
