Milan holds a very particular record, although it is not surprising given the number of bars in the city: it houses the smallest bar in the world. Its name is BackDoor43 and it is located in Via Ripa di Porta Ticinese at number 43. This record brings with it both positive and negative aspects.
BackDoor43 the smallest bar in the world
Minimalism reigns in this bar, but in a cool way! A single showcase, a small counter, a shelf with many bottles, many types of whiskey and different ingredients to prepare the cocktails (stored in space-saving bottles) which, according to those who have tried them, are incredibly delicious.
The restaurant is very small, 4 square meters, but in any case it is equipped with everything you need, like any other respectable room. Think that it also has a bathroom, which seems to be bigger than the bar itself. However, dimensions inevitably set limits: no more than three people can enter the room at a time and, of course, it is necessary to book well in advance. Another rule: you cannot stay in the smallest bar in the world for more than two hours, it is right then to give space to someone else. As exclusive as it is, it is also inclusive.
During the weekends (before the lockdown) it was also possible to have a takeaway cocktail from the small door located at the entrance. A mini-door where you can collect your drink and pay without seeing the face of the barman.

A unique oddity but how did the idea come about?
The barman usually welcomes guests wearing the V for Vendetta mask… We therefore understand that this is a truly special experience. But how did the idea of creating this place come about?
The owner Flavio Angiolillo already had another bar in Milan, the Mag and, having the need for large quantities of ice, he decided to buy an ice machine and do it himself. However, he also needed a space where to put this ice machine… then he decided to rent this place. Over time, however, the small storage room filled more and more with bottles and started to look like a mini bar. Hence the idea of creating the smallest bar in the world. A special place to feel at home and spend a unique moment.
