The new fully electric Mini takes us to Las Vegas and beyond
A Mini on the famous Las Vegas Strip, a small car in the city of endless lights and high shows. A striking contrast in appearance that features the first all-electric model of the British brand. We took a ride in the new all-electric Mini in the fabulous city of Nevada, Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, through the Death Valley, and here’s what we discovered.
The wow factor of Mini
In the metropolis of casinos and entertainment, everything is more spectacular than elsewhere. This also applies to cars: limousines, pickups, sports cars that run along the Las Vegas Boulevard familiar to everybody simply as the “Strip.” To see a Mini here generates the wow factor: fast, dynamic, with “cool” braking action! And really remarkable features: fuel consumption 0.01/100km, combined electricity consumption 16.8-14.8 kWh/100km, combined CO2 emissions 0gr/km. Here it is photographed next to the big welcome sign that precedes the parade of hotel names like Venetian, Mirage, Flamingo, Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Luxor.
Renewables in Las Vegas too?
It seems crazy, thinking of the energy expenditures in Las Vegas. Yet even here, the city council is doing its best to reduce consumption and adopt green solutions. All public buildings are powered by renewable resources, and electric vehicle charging stations are easy to find everywhere. The all-electric Mini is also taking advantage of this to continue its journey the next day. “What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.”
Mini goes beyond Las Vegas to Red Rock Canyon.
Just 30 km away from the “Strip,” Red Rock Canyon embraces us with a wonderful play of colors on the shimmering rock formations clothed in a red glow. The temperature here gets hot, over 50 degrees Celsius. While any smartphone battery would die in these conditions, the battery of the new Mini remains cool!
The range is between 235 and 270 km with a fully-charged battery and only gradually comes down. This is made possible thanks to a highly effective all-in cooling system for the interior and the high-voltage battery. Thanks to the heat pump technology, the system also permits the pre-conditioning of the interior.
